You can earn the "Doctor" title after pursuing an independent research project. Throughout your work you will be closely supported by a supervisor, with whom you will discuss topic, frames and methods of your research. The success of your doctorate will be evaluated by a team of professors at the corresponding faculty, after handing in the thesis and undergoing an oral defense of the project.
All the details concerning the process are determined by the Regulations for Doctorates at the OVGU (German only).
You will work largely independently during your doctorate - depending on the subject and subject culture. Nevertheless, you are not completely on your own - seek contact with a professor early on who is able and willing to supervise you during your doctoral project.
Once the thematic orientation and the framework for the doctoral project have been determined, the most important arrangements should be recorded in a supervision agreement; this is also required according to the state's higher education law. For this purpose, the OVG Graduate Academy has given recommendations for a supervision agreement.
At the end of the doctoral process, you will take an examination, the so-called defense. You will be expected to give a presentation on your doctoral project.
