Frugal MedTech Co-Creation Inspired by DDR Innovation

Relearn. Reuse. Re-Imagine.
Frugal MedTech Co-Creation Inspired by DDR Innovation

How can medical technologies be developed that are simple, cost-efficient, and still highly effective? This is exactly the aim of frugal medical technology: solutions are reduced to their essential functions and designed for robustness, accessibility, and practical usability.

In this interactive workshop we want to explore and develop new product ideas based on historical MedTech exhibits from the 3ios collection. Their functional principles, materials, and contexts of use are analyzed to derive new perspectives on current challenges in medical technology.

The workshop follows the Double Diamond model: observations and perspectives are first broadened and then focused.  Based on this process, initial ideas for frugal medical devices are developed and translated into concept sketches or simple prototypes.

The workshop is primarily intended for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in engineering, computer science, business and related fields who are interested in innovation, product development, and potential spin-offs. Participation is also open for interested (advanced) Master students and scientific as well as technical staff, as we are aiming for interdisciplinary workshop teams.
